  • General Responsibilities of the Librarian and the Board of Trustees

    1. Following the policies of the Board of Trustees, the Librarian will supervise staff, volunteers and daily operations of the Library.

    2. The Board of Trustees will:
      1. Recruit and employ a qualified library director; maintain an ongoing performance appraisal process for the director. Train and orient new board members.
      2. Identify and adopt written policies to govern the operation and programs of the library including personnel, general operating, and collection development policies. 
      3. Secure adequate funds to carry out the library’s program; assist in the preparation and presentation of the annual budget. Understand, adopt and defend the budget.
      4. Be familiar with local, state and federal laws. Review library bylaws. Understand the Vermont Open Meeting and Public Records law.
      5. Attend and participate in all board meetings and see that accurate records are kept.
